Run United 1 - IMPORTANT Updates

RunRio sent an update for the Run United 1 that is happening on March 4, 2012. Please note of the following changes particularly on the adjustment of the 21K gun start from 5:AM to 4:30AM.

Here’s the announcement from RunRio:

Dear Run United Participants,
Please be informed of the following  updates:

1. Starting Gun:
The gun start for the 21k category was adjusted from 5AM to 4:30AM. We are allowing a maximum grace period of 30 minute to allow participants to start.
Hence, by 5:01AM, the starting line will be closed to all runners. This is due to the limited time that the race organizer has been allowed to have the race route closed to traffic.
We hope you understand that this is for everyone’s safety and security.

2. Free Shuttle Service:
We are also providing free shuttle service for all 21k finishers from MOA back to BGC starting 6:00AM until 9:30AM only. Shuttles will leave the designated pick-up point every 15 minutes.
Designated pick-up point: OCEAN DRIVE (in between ECOM Bldg. and Blk 12) at the AM Mall of Asia complex. Drop-off point: In front of Riovana Store in Fort-BGC.
Runners are recommended to plan their transportation in advance given that the 21k is a BGC to MOA route.

3. Baggage Counter:
21k runners may leave their bags at any of the 2 designated Baggage Buses parked along the 9th Avenue near the Gun Start area in Fort BGC from 2:30AM until 5AM only. After the race, you may claim your items from the same bus at OCEAN DRIVE (in between ECOM Bldg. and Blk 12) at the SM Mall of Asia.
Participants are strongly advised not to leave any valuables in their bags. The race organizer and any of its sponsors will not be held liable for any loss or damage to your personal items.

Below are key points to remember:
  • Starting line at BGC across RIOVANA
  • Baggage Buses: 2:30AM to 5AM
  • Assembly Time: 3:30AM
  • Starting Gun: 4:30AM
  • Cutoff Start: 5AM
  • Finish line at SM Mall of Asia
  • Shuttle Service (MOA to BGC): 6AM to 9:30AM

The 5k gun start at the SM Mall of Asia has also been adjusted to 5:30AM. This will be simultaneous with the 10k category at a separate starting line, also in SM Mall of Asia.
For inquiries, you may call the Run United 1 21k Runner’s HOTLINE – 0915-9678717 from 8AM to 8PM.

*DISCLAIMER:  The special Run United 1 21k Runner’s HOTLINE is valid until MARCH 4, 2012 ONLY.

Race for the Orphans–Post Race Piece and Photos

101_1227My running buddies joined the Race for the Orphans, a not so crowded event and hosted in a not too crowded venue as well – Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.  I was there to give my support to my friends and to be their photographer (lol). Well actually I am now trying to train for 16K distance and chasing four friends with different running pace racing on a 5K distance gives me a perfect run on a drizzling Sunday morning (haist!).

The first thing that caught my attention is the singlet design.  It really looks good in the photo presentation but it looks BEST in person.  It definitely made a statement.singlet (2)

Common faces in the running community are present as always to support this run.

fun pic with Sponge Bob Runner :)

The venue is perfect for the event and just good enough for the number of runners.  But if you have the habit of taking photos about everything (like me) you will be disappointed because taking of photos is not allowed in most areas.

The gun start schedule is moved more than once and the announcement about it is a bit confusing (correct me if I’m wrong) because they need to wait for the flag raising ceremony before the race can officially start.  The warm-up and stretching is already done and the 10K runners  are positioned for the gun start but they were requested to face back to the General Headquarters for the flag raising ceremony.
ready to run? about face!
It’s sort of something new for some runners to see Pocari Sweat in cans being poured in glasses in the hydration station rather than handing the whole can directly to the runners.  Anyway there’s ample water from the other hydration partner.

imagine if this giant is filled with real Pocari Sweat :)
nice loot bag!101_1219

There’s a lot of raffles and the prices are really wow - a Trip for 2 to Boracay, pair of shoes, product kits/pack from the sponsors and a lot more!! We didn’t win but we are still feeling high on this run!Open-mouthed smile

Run for the Orphans is organized by Rundezvous Events Inc. and is for the benefit of iHope Foundation, a trust fund that will support the educational needs of the the orphans of soldiers killed in action in Mindanao and for future grantees of the AFP Educational Benefit System (AFPEBS).

You can find your race results here.  Meanwhile, my cam may have caught you somewhere along the race, or you are maybe one among the runners who crossed the finish line that my camera captured while I am patiently (lol) waiting for my buddies to cross the finish line.  So better check-out the album below and find that “crossing the finish line” moment.  If you happen to find a photo in my album and wanted to thank me or say something, you can leave it through a comment below.  Till next run buddies!

The Next Condura Skyway Marathon is On February 03, 2013.

Yes that’s what it says on their website.  And I love the way they say “Just keep on training and see you on Feb. 03, 2013”.

The official race result is also now available on their website.

I made this post to keep me motivated and not only to continue training but to train harder.  I don’t want to see this kind of Facebook status again in my timeline next year (posted few hours before the midnight gun start ). Regret, regret, regret …
“Condura Skyway Marathon your my biggest regret today! it wud be fun watching 42K runners in the skyway before testing my 16K with u :( i swear I'll deal with your half mary next year!”
Next time I will be a part of this video.  I’m sure it would be more fun watching knowing that you are one among the runners.
Acknowledgement and thanks to AeroEyeAsia for uploading this video to YouTube.

The Condura Marathon has now five glorious and successful years of running events.
  • 2008 Race for Tubbataha Reefs
  • 2009 Run for the Whale Sharks of Donsol Sorsogon
  • 2010 Run for the Dolphins of Baclayon, Bohol
  • 2011 Run for the Dolphins
  • 2012 Run for the Mangroves

Obviously the unique and noble advocacy of these running events is the key to its success.
